| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Almost, but fell short. (29 July 2010)I'll keep this short. The game itself is fun, and basically what I expected it to be. If you played the old Starcraft then you know what you will be getting into with this chapter. Better graphics, smooth play, and larger groups are the biggest additions. Where Blizzard to me fell very short is the fact that I cannot play the campaign mode without an internet connection unless I log in as a guest. I am not always at home, and I do not always have internet access. I think it is a bit crazy that Blizzard thought this was a good idea. No LAN is a bit of a downer but I can live with that. If you are at home then this game is five stars, but on the go its three. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Endless Fun comes back, but with corporate greedy in place. (29 July 2010)Graphic and the gameplay is good. Not sure about the balance yet. Blizzard has gotten them into a big trouble by the ridiculous DRM. I like their games (except WoW) but this release has lost my faith in Blizzard. Mainly because the high executives probably want their million dollar bonus with this release for all their hard work. No LAN party, must be online with FAST speed even during single player, since when is a PC game 59.99, and it's not even complete like the original starcraft. I will buy the later releases if they're $30 or less. These kind of DRMs are making me sick. So sick that I am confused and having conflict with the 5 star fun game. I don't know if I want to recommend my friends to buy the game because I don't want to support Blizzard's sucking juice out of the middle class master plan, but the game is fun! So my final recommendation is... wait till nobody supports the $60 price, buy it when it's $30. I bought mine on the launch date because I had faith in Blizzard to be fair to the customers and be loyal, but now I won't buy their games on the release date anymore due to this release. Blizzard has lost my loyalty and alot of other fans'. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great game, bad reviewers are nit picking (29 July 2010)This is a great game and I have waited a decade for this game to finally come out. I haven't seem one bad review on the actual gameplay of SC2 yet. All the negatives have been surrounding the lack of LAN feature and multiple user unfriendliness. I agree not have LAN sucks. But being a business person myself, I can see where Blizzard is coming from. SC is an international hit. In other countries, internet cafes are everywhere (think of starbucks or McDonalds). Some internet cafes are huge (over 200-300 computers, I seen it personally), so for SC1, they just needed to buy 1 legit copy and plan LAN or a virtual server for all the computers. Thats a lot of missing sales for Blizzard. Although I believe hackers will eventually bypass this feature, or lack of, Blizzard made a business decision on whether or not to have LAN. A few more comments about the lack of LAN: 1) I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard decides to implement it in future patches or expansions. 2) This is the direction that Blizzard decides to go with. There are going to be good and bad, but overall, the game is in good shape. (gas use to be $.50/gallon, but no point crying about it, just the way business world evolves). 3) For those who says they won't buy the game. i. Blizzard could care less, you are in the minority. SC2 will be the best selling game with or without you buying a copy. ii. you are only doing yourself injustice by not trying out the game. I doubt Blizzard CEO is losing sleep just because of you not buying it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() amazing game (29 July 2010)I bought the collector's edition of this several days ago and am loving it so far. Let me start off by saying the DRM for this game is some of the easiest DRM to deal with. All one really has to have to play the game is the have the internet, and be able to log into battlenet once. Call me crazy, but im assuming everyone reading this has internet so it won't be a problem. The single player campaign has been a lot of fun. Theres a bunch of units in the single player campaign that arent seen in multiplayer from all races, such as the firebat for the terran whom you are able to produce from about the 3rd mission on and several monstrous breeds of zerg that pop up now and then which require a small army to take down. The single player data is also backed up on blizzard's servers so if your computer crashes, or if you just play from two different places (I play at home, then over my lunch at work) you can pick up where you left off in the campaign from any computer by simply logging in and selecting "continue" The multiplayer is great, and has several options. The standard matchmaking system will give you up to 50 practice matches, which are slowed down a bit, are on maps that have piles of rocks blocking all main entrances which virtually eliminates early game rushes, and are a great way to get into the whole "playing against another actual player" aspect of starcraft2 which to some can be quite intimidating. The other aspects of multiplayer include ladder play, which the player gains access to after his/her 50 optional practice matches, and their 5 placement matches. The placement matches will judge your win/loss ratio out of the 5 placement matches & i think it calculates endgame score, then places you in one of the ladder brackets that it assumes you should be in. The matchmaking system is supposed to be pretty good. There will be a learning curve once someone jumps into ladder play and gets their first zergling rush, etc. but from what i've heard from blizzard employees, the matchmaker should make just about everyone have a 50/50 win/loss ratio. So far for me that's held pretty true. The last (and my personal favorite) part of multiplayer is the custom games. In the custom games, everything from top-down arcade-esque shooters to RPGs, to "fast build" maps can be selected and played. Nearly all of the custom games were made in the SC2 map editor, and made by other players. The maps are arranged by what is currently most popular, so some of the better maps are easy to find and usually float to the top. The criticisms of starcraft 2 is that there is currently no chat rooms. You can add a friend, right click their name, and chat in a private chat window, but that's about it. But on the other hand, a day after release blizzard made a statement to the community that chatrooms should be in and working in the next patch, or fairly soon. One of the other criticisms is also that theres no lan play, but in its abscence one can still log in with friends on Bnet and create a party, and do "group gaming" like that. While it's a bit clunky doing it like that, the upcoming chatrooms should make lanparty play on b-net a bit more streamlined. All in all, starcraft 2 is a great game and of the quality one might expect from the makers of World of Warcraft. Personally, it's lived up to and exceeded the hype i had for the game. I've been tracking it, and reading nearly every article for the past 2 years since it was announced at blizzcon and after probably putting 100+ hours into it (including beta time) i can safely say it's exceeded all expectations i had. I give it 5 very well deserved stars. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() not blizzards fault (29 July 2010)You guys out there blasting blizzard for making this game like it is should really take a look inside yourself.Blizzard is doing what everyone else is doing because they can you see when sony was going into peoples homes taking their kids to jail for downloading music no-one wrote their congressman and said hey stop this or when they wrote the new laws for copy rights no-one said stop it .Most of you complaining about having a 1/3 of a game bought it anyway knowing you cant take it back because there is no law making blizzard sell you a GAME just a box with something that MIGHT be a game but you buy it anyway then complain.HERE is a idea DONT FREAKIN BUY THE GAME .....let blizzard rly on the morons who dont care if they get a whole game or not ...It wont be long before you wont have to worry about blillard because they wont be there . |
