| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great when you get it to work... (20 July 2010)It does take a bit of work to get the games to run on Windows XP, but so far we've gotten Myst to run fine and Riven mostly works (a few of the animations don't show up but nothing critical so far). I haven't tried Exile yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some tinkering on Windows 7 got it working (13 July 2010)I am one of those unfortunate ones who never got a chance to beat this series even though I love adventure games. So finally got this game. Then I found out it didn't run on Windows 7 64-bit version. Being lazy, I was about to return it but after some search on the webs, I figured it out how to make the first game run. Uninstall latest version of Quicktime Install Quicktime 6 from the game disc. That's it, no need to run in compatibility mode or anything else. Oh yeah it crashes every once in a while, so save often. I took one star off because I could not figure out how run it in window mode. I love to leave this game on, and be able to do something else and come back to it. Also I think if a company is releasing anniversary edition, then they should have made a few updates to make sure people can run new edition on the latest hardwares/softwares without any sort of tinkering. In end, good news is that Myst 1 runs on the latest Windows 7 OS & from reading webs, Riven & Myst Exile have far fewer issues running on Windows 7. (I haven't tested these yet). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Getting the game to work on Vista (03 June 2010)Just to let Vista users know, I just bought this game and it does not work without tweaking, but it's pretty simple to fix. I had to uninstall the latest and greatest Quicktime to go with a lesser version, 6.5.2. After you install the game and the proper version of Quicktime, right click on the desktop icon for the game and click Properties. Click on Compatability and choose for Windows 95 and then check the box for 256 colors. This is exactly what I did and now it works with no problems. Quicktime's latest version can be reinstalled whenever you want. Hope this helps. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Myst Anniversary Edition - PC issues (20 April 2010)OK, I've heard alot of supposed fixes for this and have tried them all; this has led me to discover that the game has alot of compatability issues. Myst 1 and Riven will not run on some systems, but will on others. It's not a "compatability view" issue; in fact, I was able to get it to run on a brand new, quad core, system w/XP SP 3 installed along with the latest version of Quicktime and DirectX; no tinkering necessary. On one of my systems at home (also a quad core w/ an AMD chipset) they would not run, I would get a black screen and sound or maybe a little intro video would play, but nothing else. I tried launching the version of Quicktime that came with the games and it crashes immediatley; so I think it's probably a compatability issue with a video driver and not with XP. Despite the issues with the first 2 disks, Myst 3 installs and runs without error. I can install Myst 1 and Riven on some of my other PC's, it's just a little inconvenient to sit in my kids room and play on their computer or to run it on my laptop. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DVDs (13 April 2010)Warning: these come on DVDs, so if your computer cannot play DVDs you're out of luck! |
