Customer Reviews:

Incredibly fun game (01 November 2009)
Amplitude is wonderful. Looking at the success of the game's sequel, Guitar Hero, it's obvious that Harmonix knows what they're doing. Amplitude is the same style of game as GH, but with different mechanics. Being able to play every instrument in the song (including vocals) makes the game more exhilarating. I think Amplitude provides a bigger rush than GH ever could. It really rewards good players. Overall, I find the choice of songs better than in GH, as there's more variety. The only down-side is that it's kind of short, but it has excellent replay value. One of my favorite games of all time.

  PreRockband greatness (17 September 2009)
I've had this game for years. Yet I still find myself playing it from time to time. This and Frequency, the first rhythm game from Harmonix, are the only two games I can happily say after 7 or so years of gameplay I still greatly enjoy them. Unlike the current day Guitar Hero/Rockband craze, these games relied on just three shoulder buttons to play and required skill and a little bit of luck to maximize your score. Simply memorizing notes and playing them will not net you the highest scores. Great music if you are into a more mainstream club track listing. I suggest Frequency for those looking for a more electronic genre of music.

Each track progressively gets more difficult so once you master the mechanics you'll likely find yourself playing the last 5 songs in the listing as they are the more difficult tracks. I find it worth visiting all tracks from time to time to try to be my highest scores and to challenge others.

Best rhythm game EVER (11 May 2009)
This is a classic rhythm game. The mechanics of this game just work. The previous game (frequency)was very unforgiving in the amount of time you had to hit a note after it activated. This game is fun, challenging, and has some great music. This is where Guitar Hero and Rockband came from.

  Perfect Zen (12 February 2009)
Best rhythm game I've ever played. It's like DDR for your fingers. The only way to fail at it is to think.

not frequency - but close (18 January 2007)
i purchased both this game and its brother, frequency as gifts for friends because i knew how many hours of fun and addiction they both gave me. while this game shares many similarities with frequency it possesses a broader range of music (as opposed to mainly techno/electronic) which some may like or dislike.

on a game play level, amplitude abandons the 8 track circle for more of a shallow curve which provides a more "Guitar Hero x 8" feel. however, other than additional powerups, the only real difference worth noting is that amplitude makes you run the tutorial, with no way of blasting through it, to me, the forced 5 minutes of blah blah blah seemed like forever.

granted, if you've never played amplitude or frequency before, your best off running through it regardless
